What Driversnote does well

Driversnote's iBeacon sits in your car and starts a trip when you get in, which avoids the guesswork of phone motion detection. Its reports come out as PDF or Excel and are built to hand to an employer or the IRS. If you only need a mileage log, it is easy to live with.

Free trips and the rest of the year

Driversnote's free plan stops at 15 trips a month. Self Employment Toolkit's free plan has no trip limit at all. Pro is $6 a month and adds the things a mileage app does not do: billable hours, invoices, AI receipt reading, and a Schedule C export that pulls mileage in alongside everything else.

Self Employment Toolkit is a web app that works in your phone's browser. There is no App Store app yet and no automatic drive detection: you start and end each trip yourself, and the route distance is filled in for you. Invoices are emailed as PDFs, but clients cannot pay them by card inside the app yet. It does not file your tax return.

Bringing your Driversnote trips

Export your trips from Driversnote as Excel and use Import on the Mileage tab. It reads Excel and CSV, matches the columns, and marks trips already in your log before you confirm.
