What Stride does well

Stride is free, tracks drives automatically, and has a very large number of App Store ratings from rideshare and delivery drivers. If your work is driving for platforms and you do not invoice anyone, it covers what you need at no cost.

When you bill clients

Consultants, contractors, and other client businesses need more than a mileage log. Self Employment Toolkit tracks hours per client, turns hours and trips into invoices, posts paid invoices to income, and exports the year in Schedule C order.

Self Employment Toolkit is a web app that works in your phone's browser. There is no App Store app yet and no automatic drive detection: you start and end each trip yourself, and the route distance is filled in for you. Invoices are emailed as PDFs, but clients cannot pay them by card inside the app yet. It does not file your tax return.

Bringing your Stride mileage

Export your mileage from Stride as a CSV and use Import on the Mileage tab. It matches the columns and marks trips already in your log before anything saves.

Common questions

Is Stride or Self Employment Toolkit better for a 1099 contractor?
For a platform driver with no invoices, Stride is free and tracks drives automatically. For a contractor who bills clients, Self Employment Toolkit adds invoices, hours, and a Schedule C export, and its free plan also has unlimited trips.
Can I import my Stride mileage?
Yes. Export a CSV from Stride and use Import on the Mileage tab, which matches the columns and marks duplicates before you confirm.

Start the new year with a clean book

The tax year starts January 1, so the cleanest time to switch is before your first trip of the year. Every new account gets 30 days of Pro, no card required, so you can import what you have and try every feature. After that, keep Pro for $6 a month or $48 a year, or stay on Free.
