What TripLog does well

TripLog tracks drives automatically with your phone, and sells a Bluetooth beacon and a standalone GPS logger for people who want tracking without thinking about it. It connects to a long list of accounting and expense systems, which matters if an employer reimburses your miles. For pure mileage, it is a strong pick.

When mileage is not the only job

TripLog's Premium plan is $59.99 a year and time tracking costs extra. Self Employment Toolkit is $48 a year and covers mileage, billable hours, expenses, invoices, and the Schedule C export. A trip can become an invoice line, and hours roll into invoices.

Self Employment Toolkit is a web app that works in your phone's browser. There is no App Store app yet and no automatic drive detection: you start and end each trip yourself, and the route distance is filled in for you. Invoices are emailed as PDFs, but clients cannot pay them by card inside the app yet. It does not file your tax return.

Bringing your TripLog trips

TripLog exports selected trips as a CSV. Use Import on the Mileage tab: it matches the columns, shows which trips are new and which are already in your log, and saves only what you confirm.

Common questions

Can I import my TripLog trips?
Yes. Export your trips from TripLog as a CSV and use Import on the Mileage tab. Trips already in your log are marked, and nothing saves until you confirm.
Does Self Employment Toolkit track drives automatically like TripLog?
Not yet. You start and end each trip, and the route distance is filled in for you. If hands-free tracking is what matters most, TripLog is the better fit today.
